Celebrate Community and Legacy: The 6th Annual “Tim Walker Founders’ Day 5K Run/Walk”

July 3, 2024 By Greg Milby

As the Fourth of July approaches, Elizabethtown gears up for a special celebration that not only marks Independence Day but also honors a cherished local leader. Central Kentucky Race Management and The Hardin County History Museum proudly present the 6th Annual “Tim Walker Founders’ Day 5K Run/Walk” on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Elizabethtown Sports Park. This event is more than just a race; it’s a tribute to Tim C. Walker, a beloved mayor and community advocate whose legacy continues to inspire.

Honoring a Local Hero

Tim Walker, a history lover and a visionary leader, played a pivotal role in shaping Elizabethtown and Hardin County. Serving as mayor from 2011 to 2013, his term was cut short by his untimely death on June 14, 2013. Despite his brief tenure, his impact on the community was profound. He was instrumental in organizing Founders’ Day and was a passionate advocate for the Elizabethtown Sports Park, a place he helped create and cherished deeply.

The Tim Walker Founders’ Day 5K is a fitting tribute to his memory, celebrating his contributions to the community and his vision of bringing families together. This annual event has become a cornerstone of our community’s festivities, reflecting the spirit of unity and progress that Tim embodied.

Each course loop is 1.55 miles long, with a water stop after the first loop. Bathrooms will be open for runners at the Sports Park.

Supporting the Hardin County History Museum

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Hardin County History Museum, an institution close to Tim Walker’s heart. The museum plays a vital role in preserving the history and heritage of our community, and this fundraiser helps support its ongoing efforts.

The event has moved to the Elizabethtown Sports Park, a location that Tim Walker loved and helped bring to life. This move adds a special significance to the day, making it an even more fitting tribute to a man who dedicated so much of his life to improving our community.

A Day for Family and Community

Founders’ Day, established by Tim Walker, was created to bring families together in downtown Elizabethtown to celebrate the city’s birth. The 5K Run/Walk continues this tradition, offering a fun and engaging way for community members to come together. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a casual walker, this event is for everyone.
