Elizabethtown, KY — Attention high school students aspiring for rewarding technical careers! Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) is excited to invite you to “Gearing Up,” a career exploration event taking place on October 18 from 4-6 p.m. Parents are strongly encouraged to join in and learn alongside their aspiring professionals.
The event is designed to provide students with a valuable opportunity to engage with employers and discuss high-demand career options. Employers such as BlueOval SK, LG&E KU, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and Nucor Steel Brandenburg will be present to share insights and expertise.
Marty Sutherland, ECTC professor of Engineering and Electronics Technology, emphasized the significance of these direct interactions with employers. “Talking to employers really broadens a student’s understanding of what’s available to them. The careers in robotics, automation, and related technologies are endless,” said Sutherland. “This is an opportunity to hear directly from those employers and ask questions in a small group setting.”
While awareness of engineering has significantly increased, Sutherland hopes to see a rise in awareness of more hands-on technician careers among high school students. “Whether we’re talking about the automotive industry, distillers, utilities, the FBI, or working on missile systems, the people in these careers are highly skilled and earning remarkable salaries,” he said. “And best of all, they’re doing it without going into college debt.”
During the event, students and parents will also have the chance to explore the lab spaces of ECTC programs like Engineering and Electronics Technology, Electrical Technology, and Industrial Maintenance. Information about scholarships, such as the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship will be available. Notably, students can earn a degree in ECTC’s advanced manufacturing programs tuition-free with the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship.
The event will kick off with a focus on employers from 4-5 p.m., followed by engaging tours and exciting door prizes. Due to limited space, advanced registration is highly encouraged and can be completed at ectc.us/visit.
Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore potential careers, interact with industry professionals, and take the first steps toward an exciting future in the technical world!
