Elizabethtown, KY – October 27, 2023
The United Way of Central Kentucky (UWCK) is excited to announce a Halloween blood drive event in partnership with the American Red Cross. This initiative is not only about saving lives but also about embracing the theme of “give blood, starve a vampire.”
The blood drive is scheduled for Friday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UWCK headquarters, conveniently located at 604 North Main Street in Elizabethtown.
Every donor participating in this event will not only have the chance to contribute to a lifesaving cause but will also receive a $10 e-gift card of their choice. Additionally, donors will be entered into a drawing for a remarkable prize—a $5,000 gift card. Both pre-registered participants and walk-ins are encouraged and warmly welcomed.
With the American Red Cross declaring a national blood shortage on September 11, this event comes at a critical time. The shortage represents a nearly 25 percent drop in the blood supply since early August. The need for blood products is pressing, with an additional requirement of 10,000 blood products each week over the next month to meet hospital and patient needs.
Christa Shouse, President of UWCK, expressed the organization’s dedication to rallying the community to fill the gaps in the national blood supply. “Through this event, we want to unite the community to help fill the gaps in the national blood supply,” Shouse said. “The generosity of our community can truly help save lives.”
Participants are encouraged to mark their calendars for this vital event and register in advance by visiting unitedwayck.org.
