“Get Your Money Right Seminar: A Financial Boost for a Prosperous New Year”

January 19, 2024 By Greg Milby

In the pursuit of better control over personal finances, residents have an opportunity to kickstart their financial journey at the upcoming “Get Your Money Right” seminar hosted by The Legacy Foundation. The event, now in its sixth year, is set to take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the community room at Vine Grove City Hall, located at 300 W. Main St.

The origins of the seminar trace back to the late Radcliff Councilwoman Tanya Seabrooks, who, concerned about women’s financial health, approached Selena Hudson to initiate an event focused on financial wellness. Both working in the banking sector, they observed widows left in the dark after their spouse’s passing due to not actively participating in family finances.

“We started ‘Get Your Money Right’ in 2018,” shared Hudson, now serving on Vine Grove City Council. The initial offering was exclusively for women, but participant feedback revealed a desire for spouses or partners to attend together. Consequently, the seminar was opened to everyone the following year.

After Seabrooks’ passing, Hudson continued organizing the event independently until this year, when she recognized the need for additional support. The Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Seabrooks, stepped in to enhance and expand the event’s impact.

Topics covered in the seminar include credit, mortgage, life insurance, investments, and budgeting. Attendees can participate in roundtable discussions with experts and engage in various learning formats, including financial trivia sponsored by Abound Credit Union and a panel discussion.

Doors open at 9 a.m. for onsite registration, featuring 13 vendors and musical entertainment by DJ Johnnie Moore. Participants can register for door prizes, including a $500 prize from The Legacy Foundation, aligning with this year’s theme of “financial accountability.”

Selena Hudson emphasized, “Our theme is financial accountability. We want them to report back to us next year and let us know what they did with that $500, whether they started a savings account or invested in the stock market. We want them to succeed. That’s why we want to give them a boost.”

Metalsa, the event’s first corporate sponsor, is sponsoring the registration fee for 30 participants. Advance registration is available online HERE, and onsite registration is accepted at the door. For those preferring to join virtually via Zoom, advance online registration is required. The cost for the event is $25.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into personal finance and set the stage for a financially prosperous year ahead!
